Women's Lacrosse Announces Fall Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's lacrosse team, which will begin play as a varsity program this spring, has announced its fall schedule in preparation for the 2002 season.
The Wildcats will host a team of former All-Americans at Lakeside Field on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. The following Sunday, on Oct. 21, the Wildcats will travel to Notre Dame to take on the Fighting Irish at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Nov. 3, Northwestern will host the United States Women's Lacrosse Association (USWLA) Developmental Team at Lakeside Field.
In addition, the team will conduct the Purple & White intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 27. The time for that game is 9 a.m. at Lakeside Field.
As a club team last year, Northwestern won the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) tournament title and advanced to the inaugural U.S. Lacrosse Intercollegiate Association Women's Club Championships. Head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller has added 16 newcomers to the team this year.
"I'm very excited about our inaugural season," said Amonte Hiller. "We have a good mix of newcomers to blend in with last year's club players. Our philosophy with the fall schedule is to have the toughest competition possible, to set the tone for us as we move toward competing on the national level as quickly as possible. We have great talent and we hope to get early experience and improve right away, so that when the regular season rolls around in the spring we are ready."
