Baseball Shut Out in Saturday's Game 1, 11-0

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Northwestern baseball team dropped Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, 11-0, to Minnesota at Siebert Field. The Gophers used an 11-hit attack to down the Wildcats in a game that took just over two hours. Gopher pitcher C.J. Woodrow went the distance, holding NU to five hits.
Senior Wesley Robinson (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens) had two of the five hits, ending the game 2-for-3. Center fielder Steve Haake, (Belleville, Ill./Gibault), second baseman Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) and catcher Joe Hietpas (Appleton, Wis./North) were the other Wildcats with hits.
Junior Zach Schara (Madison, Wis./West) started on the mound for NU and went five complete innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and striking out four. Sophomore Christopher Spiering (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) threw the sixth inning, allowing three runs on three hits. Schara fell to 7-6 on the year.
