Baseball Falls to Wis.-Milwaukee, 13-5

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team pounded Wisconsin-Milwaukee pitching for 11 hits but came out on the wrong end of a 13-5 loss Tuesday afternoon at Rocky Miller Park. Senior Wesley Robinson (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephen's) led NU at the plate, belting two doubles to end the game 3-for-4, with an RBI. Overall, the Wildcats cracked five doubles in the contest.
Sophomore right fielder Brandon Ackley (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI while second baseman Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) drove in three, adding to his team-leading 35 RBI. Roeder also had a double in the game.
The pitching duties fell on sophomore Christopher Spiering (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) who went three and one-third innings before freshman Jason Krynski (Niles, Ill./Niles West) and junior Andy Adams (Mt. Prospect, Ill./Prospect) came on in relief. Spiering gave up seven runs (three earned) on eight hits while Krynski threw one and two-thirds innings giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits. Adams threw the final four innings giving up one run (unearned) on two hits and striking out one.
The loss drops NU to 20-27 overall as they travel to State College, Pa., to take on the Nittany Lions in a crucial Big Ten weekend. The Wildcats are currently in seventh-place needing to advance one spot in order to make the conference tourney. The top six teams advance to postseason play with the regular season champion hosting the 2001 Big Ten Baseball Championship.
