EVANSTON, Ill. - The 10th-ranked women's tennis team defeated Penn State 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Northwestern improved to 18-4 overall and 9-0 in the Big Ten. Penn State fell to 13-7 on the season and 5-4 in the conference.
Northwestern swept the doubles and won five of the six singles matches en route to the victory. The biggest news was senior Shannon Duffy, who returned to the lineup after missing the last month because of mononucleous. She defeated PSU's Kristin Nowicki in straight sets (7-6, 7-5).
The 'Cats will be back in action on Sunday, April 22 when they host Ohio State. Match time is slated for 11 a.m.
