EVANSTON, Ill. - In a match wrought with tension, the 52nd-ranked Wildcats pulled off a 5-2 win over No. 44 Minnesota Saturday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. With the win, Northwestern improves to 10-7 on the season and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Minnesota is now 10-9 and 5-3 in the conference.

Northwestern took the early lead, winning the doubles point. Joost Hol and Ryan Edlefsen teamed up to defeat Eric Robertson and Jon Svensson at No. 2, 8-5. Brad Erickson and Josh Axler defeated Aleksey Zharinon and Tyson Parry, 8-2, at No. 3.

NU went into the singles portion of the match riding the momemtum of the doubles point. Erickson got the first singles point, defeating Harsh Mankad, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 1. Minnesota got on the board with a win at No. 3, when Svensson defeated Hol (7-5, 6-3) then tied things up with Jorge Duenas' win over NU's Jackie Jenkins at No. 2 (6-4, 6-2). Axler won in straight sets at No. 6 to again give NU the lead. In a tight match, it was NU who prevailed at No. 4, as Jamie Sahara defeated Zharinon, 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match. Edlefsen, battling from behind at No. 5, stepped up his play and defeated Chris Wettengel, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.

The 'Cats are back in action on Sunday, April 15 when they host the Wisconsin Badgers. Match time is set for noon.
