Women's Swimming Begins NCAA Competition Today

EVANSTON, Ill. - The NCAA has announced the qualifiers for the NCAA women's swimming championships to be held on Long Island (N.Y.) from March 15-17. Five Northwestern women will compete in a total of 12 events.
Senior Tashy Bohm (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) will make her third NCAA appearance. Bohm is expected to swim in the 100 and 200 backstroke. She is the three-time reigning Big Ten Champion in the 200 backstroke, and set a new school record at the championships this year with a time of 1:57.61.
Sophomore Susie Sample (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) will make her second appearance at NCAA's, competing in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Sample earned All-America honors last year as a freshman.
Sophomore Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) is set to participate in three races (200IM, 400IM and 200 breaststroke). She is making her first appearance in the championships. Johnson's 200 IM time of 2:01.69 placed her third at the Big Ten Championships.
Freshman Erica Rose (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) will swim in the 400 individual medley and the 1650 freestyle. Rose never finished lower than second in the mile during dual competition this season.
Freshman Vicky West (Redlands, Calif./Redlands) qualified in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle events. West set a new school record in the 1650, with a time of 16:17.20 during the Big Ten Championships.
