BRADENTON, Fla. - The Northwestern baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to Ohio State Sunday morning in Bradenton, Fla. The loss drops Northwestern to 10-12 on the season as Ohio State won their 12th in a row.

Junior righthander Gabe Ribas started on the mound for NU and went six-complete innings giving up eight runs on 10 hits. He struck out six and walked three, dropping his record to 1-4 on the season. Freshman Jason Krynski came in relief and was touched for two runs on three hits in two innings of work. Fellow freshman Cody Conway, in just his second appearance of the season, threw a perfect ninth inning striking out two of the three hitters he faced.

Offensively, freshmen Chuck Sanna and Dan Pohlman each belted their first home runs of the 2001 season. Junior Steve Haake was 1-for-4 with an RBI as sophomore Eric Roeder had two sacrifice flys in the game. Sophomore Brandon Ackley scored two runs on 2-of-4 hitting upping his average to .288. Ackley went 10-of-27 for the week and raised his average more than 50 points since March 17.

Senior catcher Joe Hietpas hit his 48th career double putting him two ahead of second-place Tom Hildebrand (46, 1982-85) on NU's all-time doubles list. Hietpas is also fifth on the Wildcat career RBI list tied with 2000 graduate Pat Thompson at 139.
