Wildcat Baseball Defeats Eastern Michigan 8-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team defeated Eastern Michigan 8-0, at the McNeese State Tournament in Lake Charles, La. The win improves Northwestern to 6-5 on the year and 1-2 in tournament play. The `Cats dropped a 12-2 decision to McNeese State and an 8-0 shutout to Southwest Missouri State.
On the mound for Northwestern, Michael Nall threw a complete-game six-hit shutout. He struck out 11 and walked just two upping his season record to 2-0. Nall has a 1.35 ERA in 20 innings of work, striking out 24 compared to seven walks.
Offensively, catcher Joe Hietpas and designated hitter Matt Thompson hit back-to-back home runs in a five-run fifth inning that put the game out of reach.
In the fifth, shortstop Eric Roeder got things started with a one-out single, followed by a David Gresky walk. Third baseman Wesley Robinson followed with a single of his own scoring Roeder from second. Hietpas came next, belting a three-run home run that was followed by Thompson's solo shot.
Second baseman Todd Morgan and Robinson each went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Roeder also had two hits.
