EVANSTON, Ill. - The United States National team coaching staff has selected Northwestern women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte-Hiller among its 24 players for the U.S. National Pool. These 24 women will be in training for the 2001 IFWLA Women's World Cup Championships, which will be hosted by the English Lacrosse Association in High Wycombe, England, from July 7-14.
The next scheduled event for the Pool group is the U.S. Lacrosse National Tournament on Memorial Day weekend. The National Team will play an exhibition game in addition to competing in the top divisional tournament. During this weekend the 16 players will be chosen to travel and represent the United States in the 2001 World Cup.
A 1996 graduate of Maryland, where she was a four-time All-American and two-time national player of the year, Amonte-Hiller has been a member of the U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team since 1993 and played on the 1997 World Championship squad. Most recently, she competed with the U.S. Touring Team that went 11-0 on a tour of Tasmania and Australia last July.
