Women's Basketball Defeated by Michigan State, 77-68

EVANSTON, Ill. - Michigan State used a 10-0 run in the first 6:08 of the second half to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats, 77-68, in women's basketball action at Welsh-Ryan Arena Thursday night.
MSU took advantage of the Wildcats frigid shooting in the second half, building a 13-point lead with 7:46 left in the game. It took the Wildcats 10:16 to score their first field goal after the break. Despite the deficit, NU clawed back to within four with :15 seconds left behind sophomore Emily Butler's career high 26 points, 20 in the final stanza.
Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Spartans made 26-of-35 from the free-throw line, with their final 23 points coming courtesy of the charity stripe. Michigan State had four players in double figures led by Venemina Reese with 22 (8-of-10 from the line). Julie Pagel had 16 points and seven boards for the Spartans.
Sophomore Natalie Will scored 13 points for the 'Cats and freshman Michelle Zylstra registered a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.
Northwestern travels to Columbus Sunday to take on Ohio State at 6 p.m.
