Women's Basketball Falls To No. 20 Wisconsin, 70-54

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's basketball team fell to the Wisconsin Badgers Sunday afternoon, 70-54, at Welsh-Ryan Arena in front of a record crowd of 4,018. The total broke last year's "Pack the Place" mark of 3,926.
Senior Tami Sears and sophomore Leslie Dolland led Northwestern (4-19, 0-13) with 13 points each. Sears also added nine boards. Wisconsin (15-8, 9-4) was led by Jessie Stomski with 16 points. Nina Smith added 13 points and seven boards.
Northwestern shot only 29 percent from the field for the game, but managed to keep it close, trailing by only five at the break, 32-27. Wisconsin came out of halftime on fire, with a Smith lay-up and two Stomski baskets to put the Badgers up by 11. The Badgers shot 48 percent for the game. The second half was more of the same for the 'Cats. NU shot just 2-of-14 from beyond the arc in the second half. Wisconsin pounded NU in the paint, outscoring the Wildcats 42-22 under the basket.
Northwestern returns to action Thursday night when play host to the Michigan State Spartans at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
