Fencers Go 2-1 in New York City

Evanston, Ill. - The No. 4 Northwestern women's fencing squad defeated Brown University (17-10), while falling to No. 5 Columbia-Barnard (18-9) and No. 6 Yale (16-7), Saturday afternoon in New York City. Previous to this meet the Wildcats had only dropped two duals, both to No. 7 Notre Dame. The `Cats fall to 27-4 on the season.
FOIL
The foil squad trounced Brown, 8-1, but were unable to hold off Yale and Columbia. Yale defeated NU by a tight margin of 5-4. Sophomore Eva Mendelsohn (Rockville Center, N.Y./Southside) led the foil team with five victories, including three against Brown.
EPEE
Three one-point losses were the story for the NU epee team, as they fell, 5-4, in all three duals. Junior Jennifer Greenebaum (Mendham, N.J./Pingry School) led all NU fencers by posting six wins, two in each dual, to up her season rfecord to 56-9.
SABRE
Senior captain Carly Wells (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) and Senior Jessica Brower (Sacramento, Calif./Mira Loma) each won five bouts for NU in the sabre division, but it would not be enough as the squad lost 5-4 to Yale and 6-3 to Columbia. However, the 'Cats did edge out Brown, 5-4.
