EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University women's lacrosse coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, who will lead the Wildcats into their first varsity season since 1991 this spring, recently named Laura Peace as her second assistant coach.
"Laura was one of the most revered players to ever come out of Denison," said Amonte Hiller. "She has a lot of knowledge about the game, and an amazingly positive attitude to go along with it. We are very happy to add Laura to our staff for the spring season."
Peace comes to Evanston from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where she graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in communication. She enjoyed a stellar career with the Big Red, earning All-America honors three times from 1999-2001. Peace was the North Coast Atlantic Conference (NCAC) Player of the Year in 2000, the NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 1998, and an All-NCAC pick all four years she played at Denison. In 2001, Peace played in the North/South Collegiate All-Star Game.
During Peace's tenure at Denison, the Big Red won three NCAC conference titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship three times. Last year, Peace captained Denison to a 10-5 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the NCAC. The Big Red then won the NCAC Tournament before losing in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Peace led the Big Red with 52 goals and 17 assists for 69 points. Peace also led the NCAC in scoring as a junior (60 goals, 18 assists, 78 points).
Peace's coaching experience includes the Lacrosse Academy at Denison each of the past two summers, and the Washington College (Md.) Lacrosse Camp last summer.
