Wrestlers Enjoy Strong Showing at Northern Open

RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- The wrestling squad spent the day after Thanksgiving in River Falls, Wis., competing in the Northern Open. In all, two Wildcats took third, two finished fourth and three placed fifth.
John Giacche (Flemington, N.J./Blair Academy) followed up last week's win at the Michigan State Open with a third-place finish at 141 pounds. Giacche defeated Gabe Vigil of Boise State, 2-1, for third. Ryan Cumbee (Frankfort, Ill./Providence) posted a 5-2 win over Zach Stevens of North Dakota at 149 pounds to also take third at the Open. Mike Kimberlin (Bradley, Ill./Bishop McNamara) fell 3-2 in his third-place match at 157 pounds to Paul Carlson of North Dakota. Ryan Kane (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) also took fourth after falling, 5-2, to Josh McClay of Minnesota.
At 125, Robert Potashnik (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway Central) defeated his opponent, 7-3 to take fifth. Brothers Andrew and Brendan Curran (Chicago, Ill./Mt. Carmel) also placed fifth. Andrew pinned Ralph DeNisco of Wisconsin at 184, while Brendan won a 7-3 decision over Chad Mentol of Minnesota.
