Field Hockey Falls to Fifth-ranked Michigan, 2-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey team dropped to 2-12 overall and 1-5 in conference play losing, 2-0, to fifth-ranked Michigan at Lakeside Field on Saturday afternoon. NU came out in the first half and outshot the Wolverines 2-0 and both teams recorded two first-half penatly corners.
But Michigan's relentless offensive attack proved to be to much as they tallied nine second half shots compared to none for Northwestern.
Michigan's Kristi Gannon got the scoring started with 19:10 left in the game as she teamed up with Catherine Foreman and Ali Balmer to execute a penalty corner. Gannon, Foreman and Balmer would hook up again with :38 seconds left conserving the shutout.
Senior Nicole Smith (Warnbro, Western Australia/Como Senior)-playing in her final regular season game at Lakeside Field-and sophomore Suzi Sutton (York, Pa./Dallastown) were the only Wildcats to record a shot on goal.
Junior Kendra Mesa had keeper duties for the 'Cats as she saved three shots, upping her season total to 36.
