Evanston, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team heads to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a Friday afternoon game against Western Michigan. The Broncos are 4-7 overall, but have won their last two outings after pulling out a 2-1 overtime win over Northern Illinois and defeating Detroit by the same score in regulation last week.
The Broncos are led by 2000 Mid-America Newcomer of the Year Reese Richardson. He has scored four goals this year, including two against IPFW.
Like NU, WMU has two rookies in the goal vying for playing time. Both Mark Howell and Ian Spooner have spent time in the net for WMU. Wildcat head coach Tim Lenahan has split time between his two goalies, freshman Ryan Pederson and sophomore redshirt Adam Grossman, looking for one to step up and earn the position outright.
The 'Cats also need to get their offense going. They have scored just one goal in their past five games, compared to their opponents' 11. Junior Steve Jedlinski leads the teams in shot taken with 13. He also has notched two assists this season.
Friday's match will be played at the WMU Soccer Complex. Game time is 3 p.m. EDT.
Due to a conflict, NU's next game versus Lewis, scheduled for Oct. 24, has been canceled. The Wildcats next game will be at Northern Illinois on the 27th.
