Women's Cross Country Finishes 19th at Pre-National

FURMAN, S.C. - The Northwestern women's cross country team finished 19th out of 34 teams in the Purple race at the NCAA Pre-National Invitational Saturday morning. The Wildcats scored 467 points.
The race featured 11 teams that were ranked nationally or receiving votes. The surprise winner was Georgetown, which scored 48 points to defeat second-place Michigan State by 70 points. No. 1-ranked Colorado finished fourth in the highly competitive field with 165 points.
Individually, junior Rachel Evjen (Eau Claire, Wis./North) led the way for NU. She scored 25 points for the Wildcats, clocking 21:58 over the 6-kilometer course that will serve as the site for next month's NCAA Championships.
Freshman Diana Hossfeld (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) scored 53 points with a time of 22:28, while Karen Rogers (St. Louis, Mo./Kirkwood) also finished within the Top 100 and broke the 23-minute mark. She scored 91 points and clocked 22:57. The Wildcats' other scorers were Nicole Kuznia (Olivia, Minn./BOLD), 137 points in 23:33, and Sara Jurek (Tulsa, Okla./Cascia Hall), 161 points in 23:56.
Nora Colligan (Rockford, Mich./Rockford) and Kyna Forkins (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) closed out NU's contingent. Both were timed at 24:01, with Colligan placing 167th and Forkins 168th.
The Wildcats will be back in action next Saturday, competing in the Forester Invitational in Lake Forest, Ill. After that, it's off to the Big Ten Championships in Champaign on Sunday, Oct. 28.
