SUMMARY:
The Northwestern wrestling team traveled to Arlington, Texas, to compete in the 2001 Lone Star Duals. While individuals achieved some success, the weekend turned into a learning experience for the Wildcats. NU went 0-3 falling to Northern Iowa 31-9, Navy 29-16 and Stanford 25-18.
In the loss to Northern Iowa Josh Ballard, Ryan Cumbee and Jason Erwinski all earned decisions against their opponents to give NU its nine points.
Against Navy, Robert Potashnick, Cumbee and Brendan Curran earned decisions while Erwinski pinned his opponent at the 1:42 mark.
In Northwestern's third and final match of the tourney, the `Cats came up short against Stanford because of two forfeits at 133 pounds and heavyweight. NU forfeited the heavyweight division in all three duals.
Against the Cardinals, Potashnick and Ballard defeated their opponents while Cumbee (1:02) and Erwinski (1:05) made quick work of their counterparts, each earning a pin in just over a minute.
