
Wrestlers Downed by Wisconsin, 28-9

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team dropped its third Big Ten dual match to the Wisconsin Badgers by a score of 28-9. Northwestern came out strong as Ryan Cumbee and Jason Erwinski each earned decisions to put the `Cats up 6-0. But the nation's No. 1 wrestler, Donnie Pritzlaff, quickly tied the score at six points apiece, pinning J.P Boulus in 1:17. Erwinski improved his overall record to 10-2, 8-2 in duals while Cumbee earned his first Big Ten victory.
Wisconsin would win the next three matches taking a 15-6 lead going into the heavyweight bout. NU'S Josh Saul, ranked 16th in the country, narrowly defeated No. 17 Justin Staebler, 3-2. Saul improves his overall record to 5-3, 2-1 in league play.
The country's 18th-ranked wrestler, Tony Black of Wisconsin put the Badgers back in the win column needing overtime to defeat Northwestern's Rob Potashnick, 12-10. Tony's brother Kevin Black won by forfeit at 133.
In the last match of the night, No. 14 Grant Hoerr of Wisconsin earned a major decision over Josh Ballard.
Northwestern falls to 3-8 on the season, 0-3 in the Big Ten while Wisconsin improves to 9-4-1, 1-0 in league play.
