EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern field hockey team fell to the University of Virginia by a score of 2-0 in Charlottesville, Va. Northwestern now stands at 1-3, while Virginia upped its record to 3-1 on the year.

The Wildcats battled Virginia to a scoreless first half, then seemed to take control early in the second stanza with a pair of short corners that nearly found the net. But on a counterattack, UVA's Lorraine Vizzuso sent a ball down to the left corner where it was collected by Katie Slocum and sent across the mouth of the goal. Jessica Coleman fired the ball into the NU net for the lead.

The Cavaliers added insurance with 8:46 to play when Vizzuso tipped in a shot by Katie Jo Gerfen.

UVA outshot the Wildcats, 17-7. Jessica Yates had 12 saves, while her counterpart Becky Worthington was forced to make four in the Cav goal.
