EVANSTON, Ill. - Only four days after defeating then-No. 3 Penn State, the Northwestern University women's volleyball team (3-9, 1-2) took on 10th-ranked Wisconsin (13-1, 3-0), who also defeated Penn State last weekend. The Wildcats could not pull off another upset, falling to the Badgers, 3-0. Game scores were 15-4, 15-7, 15-4.
The Badgers took a quick lead in game one before winning, 15-4. In game two, UW jumped out to a 5-0 lead, then took a commanding 11-4 advantage behind a powerful offense before closing out the game, 15-7.
The Wildcats rallied in game three and kept it close at 4-3, before UW made a decisive six-point run behind the firepower of Sherisa Livingston. NU would score only one more point on a Sarah Ballog (Coto De Caza, Calif./Santa Margarita) kill, but the Badgers rolled to a 15-4 win for the match.
Freshman Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) led the Wildcat offense with 13 kills. On defense, freshman Lindsay Pavlik (Laguna Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) had 13 digs while sophomore Kelli Meyer picked up 10. Meyer led in the blocking category, with one block solo and three block assists.
As a team, the Wildcats had only seven blocks for the match and hit at a .105 clip compared to Wisconsin's .377. Livingston led all hitters with 20 kills, hitting .607 on the night, while Sara Urbanek led the Badgers on defense with 10 digs.
Northwestern is back at home this weekend to host No. 19 Ohio State. Match time is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
