Day 3 Complete at U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials

EVANSTON, Ill. - Amy Balcerzak, a recent graduate of Northwestern University, finished fourth in the final of the 100-meter breaststroke Friday night, just missing out on qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Team.
In a thrilling race to end the evening session, Staciana Stitts -- who tied Balcerzak for second place at this spring's NCAA Championships -- edged NCAA champion Kristy Kowal by 1/100 of a second for second place and the final spot on the Olympic Team. She will join Megan Quann, who won the event in 1:07.26. Stitts touched the wall in 1:07.79, while Kowal touched in 1:07.80. Balcerzak was fourth in 1:08.96.
