Allen, Balcerzak to Compete in Cadillac Challenge

EVANSTON, Ill. - Courtney Allen and Amy Balcerzak, a pair of Northwestern seniors who recently completed their swimming eligibility, will compete this summer in USA Swimming's Cadillac Challenge Series. The event kicks off in Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend and continues with four other events leading up to the Olympic Qualifying meet in August.
Balcerzak is scheduled to compete this weekend in Ann Arbor, and then she will be joined by Allen in Santa Clara, Calif., from June 22-25 and at the Janet Evans meet from July 13-16.
Allen and Balcerzak led Northwestern to a best-ever sixth-place finish at this year's NCAA Championships. Last summer, Allen won four medals at the World University Games and was a member of USA Swimming's National `A' Team in freestyle, while Balcerzak won three medals at the World University Games and was a member of the `B' Team in breaststroke.

* Member of record-setting free relay teams (200 free - 1:30.17, 400 free - 3:19.49).
* Big Ten champion in 50 freestyle in 2000, setting Big Ten Championships record.
* Member of two Big Ten champion relay teams in 1999, one in 2000.
* Member of 200 Medley Relay Team that set Big Ten Championships record in 2000.
Amy Balcerzak (Sharon, Pa./The Peddie School)
* 20-time All-American.
* NCAA Runner-up in 100 breast in 2000.
* School record-holder in 100 breast (59.84), 200 breast (2:12.30) and 200 IM (1:59.74).
* Member of record-setting medley relay teams (200 medley - 1:40.02, 400 medley - 3:37.99).
* 2-Time Big Ten champion in 100 and 200 breast, set Big Ten Championships record in 100 in 2000.
* Member of big ten champion 400 medley relay team in 1999, 200 medley relay team in 2000.
* Member of 200 Medley Relay Team that set Big Ten Championships record in 2000.
* All-Big Ten in 1997 and 1999.
* GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American (fall/winter at-large) - 2000 First Team, 1999 Third Team.
