
Women's Tennis Falls To Ohio State, 5-2

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Buckeyes won four of the six singles matches to clinch a 5-2 upset victory over the Wildcats, Saturday at Jesse Owens West Recreation Center. The 40th-ranked Buckeyes improve to 11-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats are now 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
The Buckeyes got off to an early start, winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Shannon Duffy and Leigh Weinraub were the lone NU winners, defeating Michelle Matko and Claudia Castro, 8-4.
The Buckeye momentum carried over into singles play as OSU took four of the six matches. Shannon Duffy and Lia Jackson were the Wildcat victors. Duffy recorded a tough win for the 'Cats, defeating No. 77 Monica Rincon in the tiebreaker of a three-hour, three-set match (6-3, 5-7, 7-6) at No. 2. Jackson defeated Sadhaf Pervez at No. 4 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.
The 'Cats travel to Happy Valley to conclude the weekend with an 11 a.m. match aganist the Penn State Nittany Lions.
