EVANSTON, Ill. - The 16th-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team defeated Iowa, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. Northwestern improves to 7-2 in the Big Ten and 18-4 overall.
Northwestern took the early lead, winning two of the three doubles matches for the first point. NU went on to win five of the six singles matches to secure the victory. In singles action, Lia Jackson (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet), won a three-set match to set a new single-season record, with 32 victories. Jackson surpassed teammate Shannon Duffy's (Plano, Texas/Plano) record of 31.
Duffy remained undefeated in league play, improving to 9-0, after defeating Toni Neykova, 6-4, 6-3.
The 'Cats are back in action on Sunday, April 23, hosting the Wisconsin Badgers at 11 a.m. at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
