Women's Tennis Defeats Wisconsin, 6-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University women's tennis team swept the singles matches to clinch a 6-1 win over Wisconsin to complete the regular season Sunday at the Johnson Tennis Center. The 16th-ranked Wildcats improve to 19-4 overall and 8-2 in the Big Ten. The Badgers fall to 7-15 overall and 2-8 in the league.
The Badgers opened the match with a strong showing in doubles, taking the 1-0 lead with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Shannon Duffy (Plano, Texas/Plano) and Leigh Weinraub (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills) were the only Wildcat victors, defeating the Badger duo of Baritot/McElroy, 8-3, at No. 3.
In singles action, it was all Northwestern as the 'Cats won all six matches, including four in straight sets. Colleen Cheng (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and Jennifer Lutgert (Evergreen, Colo./Univ. of Nebraska Indp. Study) pulled out wins in three sets.
Northwestern ended the regular season with the win, and are back in action April 27-30, at the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
