Women's Tennis Knocks Off Miami (Fla.), 7-1

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's tennis team (17-4, 7-2) defeated the Miami (Fla.), 7-1, Sunday afternoon at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. The Hurricanes drop to 9-11 on the season.
The Wildcats got the first point of the match with a win at No. 5 singles, as freshman Marine Piriou defeated Miami's Lauren Scaglione in straight sets (6-2, 6-0). The 'Cats never looked back, winning in straight sets at Nos. 1, 3, and 4. Katherine Nasser knocked off the Hurricanes' No. 1 player (6-2, 6-2). At No. 3, Colleen Cheng defeated Katia Bogolomova (7-6, 6-2).
Lia Jackson moved a step closer to setting a new single-season win record with her victory (6-2, 6-1) over Marcy Hora at No. 4. Jackson is now tied with teammate Shannon Duffy, who set the single-season record with 31 wins in 1998. Duffy defeated Meredith Laughlin (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) in a three-hour match.
In doubles, Nasser and Cheng defeated Hora and Bogolomova, 8-4 at No. 1, while Jackson and Piriou won at No. 2, defeating Jimenez and Broderick, 8-6.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, April 22, for their final matches of the regular season. NU will host Iowa on the 22nd and Wisconsin on Sunday, April 23. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., and will be played at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center. In case of inclement weather, the matches will be moved indoors to the Johnson Tennis Center.
