Baseball Defeats Northeastern at Homestead Challenge, 7-6

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University baseball team rallied in the ninth inning from a deficit with a pair of runs, and the result was a 7-6 victory over Northeastern University in the first round of the Homestead (Fla.) Challenge.
The Wildcats are now 10-6 after starting the season 0-3. They will play Harvard or Wright State in a semifinal-round game Friday at 3 p.m. Eastern.
After being shut down Wednesday against defending NCAA champion Miami (Fla.), the Northwestern bats again came to life against Northeastern. The Wildcats knocked out 17 hits, including five by junior shortstop Jeremy Kurella in the leadoff spot. J.P. Williamson added three hits in the No. 2 slot, while Joe Hietpas, Pat Thompson and Eric Roeder had two apiece.
On the mound, J.J. Standring went six innings and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits. Ryan Bos went the rest of the way, earning the win by pitching three scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit.
