EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team scored in the bottom of the ninth inning, breaking a 4-4 tie and defeating Vermont, 5-4, to improve to 8-5 overall. The Wildcats are 8-2 since an 0-3 start to the 2000 campaign.

Jeremy Kurella made the final run possible, bunting his way on base to lead off the ninth. The junior then stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on J.P. Williamson's single.

Williamson led another offensive surge by the 'Cats, rapping three of NU's 11 hits while Eric Roeder added two. On the mound, J.J. Standring went six innings and gave up all four UVM runs on eight hits. Dan Padgett pitched the final three innings in relief and picked up the win after giving up three hits and striking out four.
