Baseball Team Defeats Hartford, 11-4

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team used strong pitching and a powerful offensive display to defeat Hartford, 11-4, Saturday afternoon to kick off its spring trip in Homestead, Fla. The win improved the Wildcats to 6-5 overall.
Zach Schara got the start on the mound for the `Cats, allowing all four Hawk runs on five hits over his six innings while striking out 10. Dan Padgett and Ryan Bos each struck out the side in their one-inning relief stints, while Mike Nall mopped up in the ninth inning.
Offensively, Northwestern had three players -- Joe Hietpas, Bob Dainton and Kris Musselman -- get two hits as the 'Cats banged out 13 altogether. Hietpas also knocked in three runs. At the top of the order, Jeremy Kurella went 1-for-3, scored three runs and knocked in two while stealing four bases on four attempts.
Northwestern will play two games Sunday, against Central Connecticut in the morning and Vermont in the evening.
