EVANSTON, Ill. - The first coaches poll of the women's fencing season was released recently and Northwestern (28-1) was listed as the No. 2 team in the nation. They trail only last year's national champion Penn State, the only team to defeat NU this season.

The 28-1 overall record is the best in head coach Laurie Schiller's career and he is on the verge of his 700th victory in his 22 years at NU. His overall record at Northwestern is 699-371.

Spurred by the ranking, the Wildcat fencers went 6-0 at the second edition of the NU Duals held in Patten Gym on Saturday. Northwestern defeated Minnesota (25-2), the University of Chicago (21-6), Case Western Reserve (27-0), Notre Dame (15-12), Lawrence (24-3) and Purdue (23-4).

Vivian Imaizumi (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) led the way for the 'Cats, going 11-1 in sabre competition. On the weekend she upped her record to 64-9. Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) also continued her dominating season as she went 10-2 in the foil and improved her team-best record to 60-5. Freshman Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) led the epee weapon, defeating eight opponents while losing only once. She has a 51-5 overall record.
