Northwestern Women's Fencing Suffers First Loss

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's fencing team fell to top-ranked and defending NCAA champion Penn State for their first loss of the season as they went 5-1 at the Notre Dame Duals held this weekend in South Bend, Ind. Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Acacdemy) and Kate Rudkin (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) each went undefeated, as Dorf was 15-0 in foil and Rudkin achieved a 13-0 mark in ep?e. Dorf improved her overall record to 50-3, and she continued her climb up the all-time win list. She is now 13th overall with a 156-41 record.
Vivian Imaizumi (Penn Valley, Pa./Harriton) and Carly Wells (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) went a combined 28-5 for the Sabre team. Imaizumi is 53-8 overall while Wells is 43-9. On the year, the sabre team is 20-3.
Overall the foil team was 42-12, ep?e was 37-17, while the sabre team went 44-10.
The 'Cats are next in action hosting the second round of NU Duals at Patten Gym on Saturday, Feb. 5.
