EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's fencing team went unbeaten defeated three ranked teams at the Temple Duals held this past weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. For the weekend, the second-ranked Wildcats defeated No. 6 Columbia (17-10), No. 7 St. Johns (15-12) and No. 22 Cornell (20-7) to improve their overall record to 35-1 and clinch their best finish in school history.

The win over Columbia was originally counted as a 17-10 loss for the Wildcats due to an error on Temple's part. Temple sent the score out incorrectly on Sunday, before sending out the correction on Monday afternoon.

The program's previous best record came in 1995-96, when head coach Laurie Schiller's squad was 30-7. In 1993-94, the squad went 55-14 as the foil and ep?e squads competed as seperate teams.

The 'Cats now gear up for the Midwest Conference Championships, which will be held in South Bend, Ind., this weekend (March 4-5). Sophomore Kristen Dorf (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) leads the Wildcats as last years conference champion in the foil division.
