EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern baseball team defeated the University of Washington, 2-1, to close out play at the Rawlings Spring Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. The Wildcats went 1-3 for the weekend and played three one-run games.
Gabe Ribas was the hero Sunday, as he tossed a complete game two-hitter in the seven-inning affair to gain the win.
Northwestern scored one run in the second and added another in the third, and Ribas was sharp except for the single run he allowed in the fifth.
Offensively, the Wildcats got sacrifice fly balls from Jason Anderson in the second and Jeremy Kurella in the third to get all the runs they would need. Pat Thompson went 2-for-3 on the day as NU scratched out six hits.
Northwestern will play this weekend in the Ralston Purina Baseball Challenge, being hosted by the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. The Wildcats will play the host Seahawks on Friday, then meet Richmond on Saturday and the University of Connecticut on Sunday.
