EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team fell to No. 2 Minnesota, 35-6, Friday night in Minneapolis.
One of the few highlights came with the return of senior Scott Schatzman to the lineup. The top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 141 lbs., he overcame a 5-1 deficit after one period to defeat 12th-ranked Chad Erikson, 12-10, with a takedown late in the third period. Schatzman missed both of last weekend's meets to be with his father, who had surgery after suffering a heart attack during the NU-Iowa match on February 6.
NU's only other win came at 174 lbs., where 12th-ranked Mark Bybee earned the decision over No. 14 Delaney Berger, 7-2. At 133 lbs., John Giacche extended 11th-ranked Brett Lawrence to overtime before falling, 6-4.
NU will be back on the mats Saturday, meeting Wisconsin in Madison.
