Wrestlers Drop Home Opener to Central Michigan, 26-10

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team opened its home dual schedule with a 26-10 loss to Central Michigan at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill. The Chippewas jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Jeff Pangborn and Brett Faustman earned victories before Northwestern's heavyweight, Josh Saul picked up the `Cats first win as he held off Jack Leffler in the final 25 seconds to win 3-2. This was Saul's first match of the season.
Central Michigan won the next four weight classes outscoring Northwestern 15-0. NU's 157-pounder, Jason Erwinski put the `Cats back in the win column as he scored a two-point takedown in the final seconds of the third period winning 6-5. Erwinski improved his overall record to 4-2. In the next match (165), Ryan Kane produced another win defeating Mitch Hancock by major decision, 15-4. He improved his record to 3-1.
Central Michigan won the day's final match giving them a 26-10 win upping their record to 4-2 on the season while Northwestern fell to 2-2.
