Damien Anderson Finishes Fifth in Heisman Voting

EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern junior running back Damien Anderson earned 101 points and placed fifth in the voting for the 2000 Heisman Trophy. The award was presented to Florida State senior quarterback Chris Weinke Saturday night at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City.

Anderson earned six first-place votes, 20 second-place votes and 43 third-place votes for 101 points. He finished behind Weinke (1,628 points), Oklahoma QB Josh Heupel (1,522), Purdue QB Drew Brees (619) and TCU running back LaDainian Tomlinson (566).

A total of 922 people are given a vote on the Heisman Trophy -- 870 media members, the 51 living previous winners of the Heisman Trophy, and one fan chosen at random by Heisman sponsor Suzuki. Players receive three points for a first-place vote, two for a second-place vote, and one for a third-place vote.
