EVANSTON, Ill. - Nicole Daniels and Tami Sears had 12 points apiece, but it was not enough as the Northwestern women's basketball team fell to Creighton, 88-58, in Omaha Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats fall to 3-3, while the Bluejays improve to 5-1.
Northwestern scored right off the bat, as Leslie Dolland dropped in a layup just 18 seconds into the contest. But Creighton came back with the next four points, and the Wildcats never led again. The Bluejays turned a 10-8 advantage at the 15-minute mark into a 20-9 bulgeover a three-minute span and never looked back. The score was 45-23 at the break.
The Wildcats got no closer than 22 points in the second half in taking the loss.
Dana Leonard, who had been sidelined by mononucleosis for all of preseason and most of the season thus far, saw her first significant action of the 2000-01 campaign and had nine points in 16 minutes.
Creighton placed four players in double figures, led by Taya Allen, Jenny Burns and Dayna Finch who all had 12 points. Teresa Wessling added 10.
Northwestern is back in action Tuesday night at DePaul. Tipoff time is 6 p.m. in Chicago.
