EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's fencing team went unbeaten in five duals at the Ohio State Open, held October 28-29 in Columbus, Ohio. The Wildcats defeated Detroit Mercy (25-2), Case Western Reserve (27-0), Ohio State (16-11), Michigan State (24-3) and Michigan (19-8) starting the season 5-0.

Individually for Northwestern, Kate Rudkin -- second on the team in wins a year ago (103) -- went 11-0 to begin her sophomore campaign. Senior Carly Wells, who won a 100 bouts last year, was 11-1 while sophomores Eva Mendelson and Jennifer Greenebaum were 9-1. After a 96-30 season in 1999-2000, sophomore Kristen Dorf went 8-1.
