EVANSTON, Ill. -
The Northwestern women's golf team is in sixth place after the first round of the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tenn. The tournament is being played at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The course is par 72-5,985 yards.
Duke University is the current leader, shooting a round one score of 300. Host school, Tennessee, is just two shots back at 302. Tina Schneeberger fired the first-ever-hole-in-one (par 3-13th) in this event.
Northwestern is eight strokes behind the leader, shooting a first round 308. NU is led by senior Christie Hermes who shot a 72 and is just one stroke behind tournament leader Rachel Lester (71) of Kentucky.
Another top 20 Wildcat is Emily Gilley who is tied for 12th after a first round score of 75. Rounding out NU's top five is Elizabeth Burden (t-35th), Hana Kim (t-50th) and Lauren Grzebien (t-54th).
Round two starts tomorrow at 8:30 from both the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
