Wrestling Team Defeats Ohio State, 25-15

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern wrestling team upped its record to 6-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten defeating Ohio State (7-6, 0-3), 25-15. Senior Drew Pariano (Fairview Park, Ohio/Fairview Park) (6-5, 6-5) recorded his second fall of the season as he pinned OSU's Josh Janson in 25 seconds to send the 'Cats on their way.
Fourth-ranked Scott Schatzman (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) (22-2, 13-0) defeated No. 19 Keaton Anderson at 141 pounds by a score of 12-6 to start the match, but No. 20 Brian Roskovich came right back for the Buckeyes with a technical fall win over J.R. Scott (Dublin, Ohio) (0-13, 0-9). Pariano answered with a quick pin while Joel Walker evened the score at nine recording a major decision over Tony Scacco (Spring Grover, Ill./Richmond-Burton) (4-14, 2-10).
NU never relinquished the lead as No. 6 Mark Bybee (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) (17-6, 11-2) and No. 18 Tom Ciezki (Evergreen Park, Ill./St. Laurence) (14-5, 5-3) earned major decisions over Nick Stepanovich and Donovan True, respectively, to take a 17-9 lead.
No. 9 Nick Preston of Ohio State defeated Matt Huebner (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) (11-11, 8-5) 3-2 in a hard fought match to cut the lead to 17-12. But heavyweight Josh Saul (Corona Del Mar, Calif./Calvary Chapel) (10-12, 7-6) picked up his 10th win of the season defeating OSU's Adam Donehue 10-5.
Kore Sharpley (OSU) defeated Steve Cordova (Heber City, Utah/Wasatch) (8-15, 5-8), 3-1, in overtime to cut the lead to 20-15. The final match of the night belonged to Northwestern wrestler John Giacche (Flemington, N.J./Blair Academy) and Tariq Seifullah of Ohio State. Giacche (15-8, 8-5) earned a technical fall victory, 22-7, to complete the win for the Wildcats.
Northwestern will be back in action Feb. 4, hosting Michigan State at Welsh-Ryan Arena at 7 p.m.
