
Women's Basketball Beaten by Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Northwestern women's basketball team fell in its Big Ten opener Sunday afternoon, losing to Penn State, 114-49, at the Nittany Lions? Bryce-Jordan Center.
The Wilcats (3-8, 0-1 Big Ten) stayed with the Nittany Lions (10-2, 2-0 Big Ten) for four minutes, trailing just 14-11. However, Penn State reeled off 17 of the next 19 points to up the lead to 31-13, then used an 11-0 run later in the half to make the score 47-18. By the time the half ended the Nittany Lions had set a Jordan Center record with 65 points and led, 65-27.
The second half was more of the same, as Emily Butler led the stanza with a three-pointer for Northwestern but Penn State answered with the next 19 points to lead, 84-30.
Tami Sears had 13 points to lead NU in scoring, while Butler added 10. For PSU, six players hit double figures while two other players added nine apiece. Maren Walseth was the only Lion with more than 20, as she hit for 26.
Northwestern is back in action Thursday, hosting Michigan State at 7 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
