Amy Balcerzak Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. - Senior Amy Balcerzak (Sharon, Pa./The Peddie School) was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Wednesday, after her performance Saturday against Auburn and Tennessee at the Norris Aquatics Center.

Balcerzak, the Wildcats? top breaststroke and individual medley threat, won both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events with NCAA qualifying times. She also finished second in the 200-meter IM, and was a part of Northwestern?s winning 200-meter and 400-meter medley relay teams. Led by her efforts, the 11th-ranked Wildcats defeated 19th-ranked Tennessee but fell to No. 6 Auburn.

Balcerzak?s time in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.70) is the fourth-best time on the national collegiate scene this winter, while her time in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.13) is the fifth-best time in the nation.

The Northwestern women are back in action this Friday night, meeting Notre Dame and Rice in South Bend. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Central.
