EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern University field hockey team got a pair of goals from Lindsay Wright (St. Catharines, Ont./Ridley College) for the second straight contest, but it was not enough as the University of New Hampshire eked out a 3-2 victory Monday afternoon on Lakeside Field.
The UNH Wildcats improved to 3-0 with the win, while NU fell to 1-1.
UNH drew first blood on the day, when Tami Street converted a pass from Kristin Iarusso, but Northwestern answered less than six minutes later when Wright collected a loose ball and wristed a shot over the shoulder of UNH goalkeeper Amy Agulay.
UNH regained the lead just before halftime, though, when Iarusso scored amid a scramble off a penalty corner with just 30 seconds left on the clock.
In the second half, New Hampshire again capitalized on a penalty corner, as Kelly Stowe fired a shot that bounced up and over a prone Jessica Yates (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and into the goal.
NU made one final effort to get back in, and Wright tallied her second goal with more than 16 minutes to play. The Wildcats could not get the equalizer, though, in taking the loss.
Yates ended the game with seven saves for NU, while Agulay was called upon for five stops.
Northwestern hits the road for the next five games, beginning Friday when the Wildcats battle Ball State.
