EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team gained a split on the weekend, defeating Wisconsin, 1-0, on Friday but dropping a 1-0 decision to Eastern Illinois Sunday.
The split put the Wildcats record at 1-7 on the season.
On Friday afternoon at Lakeside Field, Jun Kim was the hero as he scored with just 4:01 remaining on the clock. The assist went to Trevor Nelson. In the goal, Matt Keeler had four saves for NU, while Wisconsin's Moriba Baker had just one stop.
On Sunday, Tim Fredin scored in the 38th minute and Eastern Illinois made it stand up, defeating the Wildcats, 1-0. NU held the better of the play through much of the second half and had a few excellent chances to score, but could not get the equalizer. Keeler was called upon to make one save for the 'Cats, while Panther goalkeeper Ryan Waguespack had two stops.
The men will play at Northern Illinois this Wednesday before taking a nine-day break. On October 8, the Wildcats will meet the current No. 1 team in the country, Penn State.
