EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer team came from behind all day Sunday, but ran out of magic as Boston University's fourth and final goal came in overtime and victimized the Wildcats, 4-3.
The match was the third and final match of the Wildcat Classic. Both NU and BU went 1-1 in the affair.
Northwestern fell behind, 2-0, as Nicole Soules and Deidre Enos scored in the first 50 minutes, but the Wildcats came to life after Enos' goal as freshman Janelle Harwood scored her first collegiate goal 31 seconds later.
After the Terriers extended the lead to 3-1, sophomore Katie Hertz tallied her fourth goal of the season to draw NU back within one when she headed in a free kick from Kristen Palmer.
Northwestern then tied the match when Palmer curled a corner kick into the far corner of the net in the 86th minute. The game remained tied until the second overtime, when Enos outraced a Wildcat defender to the ball, patiently worked the ball around NU keeper Erin Ekeberg, and blasted the ball into the net from 15 yards out.
Northwestern will kick off the 1999 Big Ten campaign this Friday, hosting Purdue on Lakeside Field here in Evanston. Kickoff will be 4 p.m.
