Gilley Qualifies for U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. -- - Northwestern women's golfer, Emily Gilley, shot a one round score of 78 to qualify for the 1999 U.S. Women's Amateur Golf Championships held in Asheville, N.C., at Biltmore Forest Country Club. Gilley, a sophomore, joined 14 other women at Exmoor Country Club in Highland Park to qualify for the tournament, which takes place August 9th through the 14th.

Gilley, a native of Flossmoor, Ill., led the Wildcats as a freshman in strokes per round average with 78.94. Gilley's stroke average is best-ever by an NU freshman and third-best overall in school history. She played in all 12 tournaments of the season with her best finish (t-3rd) at the Bonita Bay Invitational where she posted a season-low score of 74. In high school, Gilley was the Illinois State Champion in 1996 and 1997. She also won the Illinois Junior Champions Invitational.
