EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern University women's swimmers Amy Balcerzak and Courtney Allen combined to win four medals on the final three days of competition at the World University Games in Mallorca, Spain.

Courtney Allen, a senior, won the 400th gold medal in U.S. World University Games swimming history in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 25.49. Allen became the fourth-fastest American swimmer ever in this event and the 18th-fastest overall. Allen also won a bronze medal in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 57.20.

Balcerzak, also a senior, won a gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:09.54. Balcerzak became the ninth-fastest American ever in the event. She and Allen also teamed with Sarabeth Schweitzer (Maryville, Calif.) and Gina Panighetti (Chico, Calif.) to win the silver medal in the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:11.82. Japan won the event with a time of 4:09.90.

Overall, Allen and Balcerzak won six medals, including three gold medals, one silver and two bronze. The Americans won a combined 33 medals (17 gold).
