Women's Swimming 10th after Second Day of NCAA Championships

ATHENS, GA. - The 13th-ranked Northwestern womens swimming and diving team is in 10th place after day two of the NCAA Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. Northwestern has 99 points and trails ninth-place Auburn by eight points. Georgia, the host school, remains in the lead.

Northwestern opened the night by winning the consolation heat of the 200-yard medley relay. The Wildcat team of Dominique Diezi, Amy Balcerzak, Cathy Lundin and Courtney Allen finished with a time of 1:40.74, almost one full second better than their morning qualifying time.

Balcerzak also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke, the third consecutive season that she has finished in the top eight in the event. Balcerzak set a school-record with her 1:00.87 qualifying time and followed that with a time of 1:00.95 in the championship heat.

The meet resumes tomorrow morning and concludes with the 200 freestyle relay tomorrow night.
