EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head field hockey coach Diane Loosbrock announced today that Kathryn Breed (San Jose, Calif./Los Gatos) has signed a national letter of intent to attend Northwestern and play field hockey beginning the fall of 1998.
A two-time all-league honoree, Breed was named to the San Jose Mercury's first team in 1997 and its second team in 1996. The team MVP and captain, Breed tallied 10 goals and 15 assists in her final two seasons at Los Gatos High School. She led Los Gatos to two league titles, one county crown and a three-year record of 49-6-3. During her sophomore season, she was chosen for the 16-and-under team which represented California at the National Futures Tournament in Maryland.
In the classroom, Breed was a three-time Principal's Scholar and finished in the top 10 percent of her class in 1997. In addition, she was named to the California Scholastic Federation three-straight years.
Breed chose Northwestern over Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, Princeton and California Berkeley.
